writing is hard

Hole_0174sml

Writing is hard or easy, depending on the day. Sometimes when I'm working on a scene, I can see the whole thing in my mind as if it was a movie. I can see the trees or the house. I can hear the characters talking to one another. Then it's cake. I just start typing and a couple of hours later, I'm finished. It's all there, just like it was in my head. That's when it's easy.

When it's hard, I work on the same page for an hour and end up with a paragraph (maybe). I can see where I want to go, but I just can't get there. Usually, it means I'm off and the scene isn't working, although sometimes those end up being the best. But that's hindsight, and it doesn't help me when I'm stuck in the quicksand. They say if your stuck in quicksand, you shouldn't move. But I do the opposite. I jump – to the next part of the scene, the next place, and I start writing.

Because filling in the holes in easier than standing in them.

where do you come up with these perfect images to the thoughts you are conveying? I guess it’s the artist/writer in you…excellent!
